Julian Welch Named 1st Team All-State (Calif JC)
Some may not be familiar with Calif JC system but they are not part of NJCAA organization. Calif JC teams compete only for state CCCAA title, not the national NJCAA title.
CCCAA names All-State JC teams every spring. 5 players to 1st team and 5 players to 2nd team. And Julian Welch (Gopher recruit) was honored recently:
From Yuba CC Website ..... (Updated: 04/01/2011)
... Julian Welch was named conference MVP and 1st team All-State ...

Specific Comments On Gopher Recruits
Who’s coming in? #40 Andre Ingram (Butler CC), #42 Julian Welch (Yuba College)
Minnesota will need early production from Ingram and Welch to get back on track. Ingram, a 6’7/235 pound forward out of Butler CC, averaged 13 points and 8 rebounds this season while shooting 63% from the field. He should be able to come in and help control the glass and possibly provide some scoring down low. Julian Welch, a 6-foot-3/200 pound point guard out of Yuba College, has the experience, size and ability to compete for minutes at the point from day one. He averaged 19 points per game this year at Yuba. Welch spent his freshman year at UC-Davis where he was named Big West freshman of the year while averaging 8 points and 1.5 assists per game. Welch takes care of the ball, sees the floor well and should bring some much needed scoring from the perimeter.
