There really are not a ton of surprises here. Shortell earned the 2nd string QB role, the offensive line is exactly what we expected and the linebackers are not changing. What may have been a slight mystery or surprise is that Moulton is the #2 receiver, Ben Perry will be starting at DE and the Minnesota safeties are officially the starters.
Remember when Ben Perry was signed and there were a lot of people believing it was a waste of a scholarship? He played some for maybe the highest profile program in Texas yet didn't earn a scholarship from anywhere except Minnesota. The assumption was Tim Brewster was wasting this scholarship to make inroads at Southlake Carroll, but Perry would never be a Big Ten player. He may still never be a decent Big Ten player but he earned a starting job over KGM, Matt Garin and Simpson as a freshman.
This team is more experienced than we've seen in a while with 2 redshirt freshmen starting but several other freshmen (true and redshirted) listed as second string. Interesting that we have eight freshmen on the offensive 2-deep. Better hope for a healthy offense!

Kiffin...
is making me question my earlier predictions we’d fail to cover the spread. If he doesn’t take us more seriously…I may have to put some scratch down on the U. Something I try never to do because my emotions get the better of me and cause poor judgment.
With Minnesota the opponent, Kiffin can probably afford to take some risks and sustain some mistakes. The question is whether he deems it worth the trouble. Kiffin canceled Saturday’s practice as a surprise to the Trojans. They resume workouts today.
I know Moulton is good, but I he can't play two positions at the same time
I keed, I keed. Seriously though, the coaching staff obviously likes what they’ve seen from Moulton, and I’d expect they’ll try and get the ball in his hands whenever possible. That would be nice considering USC might try to cover Da’Jon with four guys.

Line is at 21 points....
….I like the Gophers at 21 points. If we lose by more than 21, Gopher Nation (me included!) will be absolutely deflated…even though we all know this season will be long and difficult, to get our ass kicked by more than 3 touchdowns week 1 will be tough to swallow and difficult to move on from. I’m comfortable we cover that.
I’m taking the U and the 21 points….
In other news…tell me about Marcus Jones. Will he be doing any special teams returns? What do you think his involvement will be? I wish I could have come up for some practices to check the team out. I used to peak through the fence at Wacker’s teams during his early fall practices just to take in college football (tough for me to give it up after high school, but I was 150 lbs entering college). It is this time of year where I really miss college. Until I go to the ATM for cash I guess…
Jones was the #1 punt returner at one of the scrimmages
and I’d bet he’ll be back there with Troy on kick returns too.
The coaches love his speed and quickness, and will try and get the ball in his hands on short routes and screens where he has some space to go. He’s exciting, for sure.
The Daily Gopher
I would take that line
Wish I was in Vegas now bet the house.
I don't know about you...
But I’m logging into CentSports RIGHT NOW and putting the $6 that I have built up in my account on the Gophers to cover. EVERY. LAST. CENT.

Also, for anyone interested...
the press packet/preview for the USC game- which is released by the U’s sports info department- is 22 pages of awesome. I highly recommend it.

Senior starters
Anyone else notice there is only six fifth year (redshirt seniors) players remaining from the 2007 recruiting class and they all start.
Redshirts
I really hope kill doesn’t waste redshirts, Mcknight, Tinsley, and Stoudermire barely played as a true freshman and it would be nice to have those guys for another season. Those guys would have a much more of an impact as fifth year seniors as opposed to their true freshman seasons.
Some surprises
Where is Garin on the two deep at DE is he injured. Same thing with Green at WR is he still not a 100%. Other then that pretty much what I expected. I think Moulton and Jones were mixed up in one spot on that chart though.
What's wrong with Green?
Thought he was solid, or good upside?
