Around SBN: What If This Is It For The Celtics? End Of An Era Looming

Golden Nugz - 09.28.11

So it's Wednesday. Hump day. 3 days to game day. Yay.

-Tim Brewster has been doing some talking to Charley Walters and his biggest regret about his coaching time at Minnesota was bringing in the spread... I'm not kidding, that's what he came up with.

-Power Rankings!!! TheBigTenFootballDude. Guess where the Gophers rank? It's not as bad as you think, but it's much worse than you were hoping.

-Speaking of Power Polls, OTE did their weekly one too. Similar to TheBigTenFootballDude, the Gophers aren't (alone) in last place. We're officially joined at the hip with Indiana, you guys. Ick.

-The Daily does a quick comparison of Q & Denard Robinson.

-Michigan hasn't played a single road game yet. Well that doesn't seem advantageous at all does it?

But he was reasonable

in my opinion. other than saying he’s “a damn good coach”. I feel like he took the highest road possible since he was fired. And he should have…but still, he’s always carried himself professionally through what was most likely a horribly embarrassing situation.

He went from Big 10 head coach to sideline reporter….that shit ain’t easy for a proud man to swallow, and he’s as proud as they come.

Anyway…as long as we keep losing….his name will be in the press…ha ha ha….

3 touchdown spread against Michigan…they’ve beaten much better teams than us by more than 21….I like the Wolverines by about 30 in this game. Unless they royally screw up, I don’t see them going a posession without scoring points.

I wonder...

what would be the reaction if by some grace of God the Gophers would win. On any given day…

Fans and Alumns of that opposing team

…calling for the coach to be fired. No matter who it was!

Ha ha ha…no, actually it would be very simply put “they were looking ahead to the next game”. Which I find to be complete bullshit…as a former player and fan…once that game starts you’re zoned in. Practices are set up to focus on the next team…there is no time to look at another team’s films or schemes….but that is what they’ll say. Simply put, “we looked past Minnesota, but let me tell you, that is a darn good football team right there and Coach Kill is making them play hard!”.

Quote me….that’s the quote…

I... vaguely remember a spread.

Shit, as I recall it even worked kinda sometimes.

Seems about right to me

Deciding to scrap what had been a pretty successful offense to do something totally different, only to learn after less than a year that it can’t work sounds like a reasonable biggest regret to me.

Especially as he could have figured out it wasn’t worth trying by just talking to some people.

I think you're mixing this up

Brewster said his biggest regret was using the spread at all. He does not regret getting away from it. Dude’s all mixed up.

I thought...

…his biggest mistake was moving AWAY from the spread. Our offense was decent in the spread, we just needed to correct a few hiccups like not having any plays to score once we were inside the 10 yard line.

I’m not ready to pass judgment on Kill and his staff even if we finish 1-11, but by how horribly we are playing in these games I am concerned. I’m not sure we are going to get much better talent under Kill, so I’m not sure where we go from here. If he can improve the offensive and defensive lines that could certainly help everything else fall into line.

It’s kind of like “wow are we bad….way worse than I thought we could be, and I thought we were going to be horrible”.

That’s how I see it and why I get occasionally concerned if I think about it at the wrong time of day….like I thought we’d suck. Knew we could not compete in the Big 10…but the degree of crappy we have played concerns me, and I naturally wonder what exactly they have been teaching as coaches and at practices. Some teams you should just be able to beat…even if you had no coaches in the box….NMSU is that team. They lost to SJSU!!!!

his biggest mistake

was hiring Jedd Fisch. That was after the spread mishap but that hire was awful and ruined what could have been a decent offense to go along with the most respectable defense we’ve seen in years (still not very good, but respectable).

what you say here can, and will, be used against you The Daily Gopher

Oh, no. NO.
He’ll work Saturday…then drive to Kansas City, Mo., to work the sideline in the Chiefs-Vikings game Sunday afternoon.

It’s bad enough the Vikes are 0-3… And now I have to watch Brewster on the sideline? Jesus.

Yeah, if Illinois runs the ball down our throats

and Michigan curbstomps the Gophers, and the Vikings play their usual first half… and THEN, on top of ALL THAT, if have to listen to GO FIGHT TRY Brother Tim…

Sweet...Bottom 10 on ESPN...

“Binky the Doormat”: The Gophers have become the doormat of the Big Ten after losing to FCS foe North Dakota State 37-24 at home last week. Minnesota also lost to South Dakota in 2010. Thank goodness there’s no East Dakota.

by jimipig on Sep 28, 2011 4:49 PM CDT reply actions

If we lost the Vikings

We would edge closer to being East Dakota, or North Omaha…take your pick.
