I think the idea from the Soldier Field folks...
…is to have a hockey day event where the undercard is Notre Dame versus ______ (possibly Miami – OH). I’m sure the Badgers would put it in Camp Randall if they could but I could see Minnesota saying “meh” to that. The Madison papers are saying that Badgers have expressed in interest in doing an outdoor game every 4 seasons or so.
They would be the ones given up a home ice for a game so I’m all for it.
The Badgers have already had a game in Camp Randall in 2010
So it’s nothing new to them. I’m still waiting for the Winter Classic + Pond Hockey Championship + Outdoor Gophers Men’s and Women’s game + ???, but the Wild need to start winning some games and make a serious run in the playoffs before that even becomes a possibility…

I went to the one at CR...
…and had a blast. Tailgating beforehand was a great time. I think one at Soldier would be fun too but what I’m really hoping for is an outdoor game at TCF sometime soon.
Hah, I was there too
One of the few times I’ve cheered for a Michigan team. I went the house party route… and the 3’ of snow or whatever didn’t make getting into or out of the stadium any fun on foot

The snow was the best part!
Drinking beer while wearing huge Sorels. Snow bocce with blind shots over huge snow hills (extra bonus: putting your beer down while you played only made it colder). Great times.
I didn’t cheer one way or the other. Mostly just focused on staying warm. =)
gotcha, thx
I'm feverished, or the way you want to spell it

This makes little sense
Considering the NFL and the Bears would have priority on the field until the Bears would no longer need the field (insert your own joke here), they’re pretty much pegged down for a game in mid-February – after the NFC Championship game – or the first two weeks of March – before the WCHA Final Five Tourney starts. There’s a pretty narrow window there.
On top of that, you’re not playing in either team’s market, and I think Minnesota would want that game at home more than anything. Unless the B1G is up to something and is going to use it as a showcase of exhibition games between future B1G teams as well or as a blockbuster announcement that Illinois is going to join D-1 hockey as well, it just doesn’t add up.
With all that said, if it happens… Daily Gopher Meetup?

They've actually already picked a date if it happens.

I didn’t totally get why it would be in Chicago either, but as I say above, perhaps it was a way to get the Gophers to agree versus if it were at Camp Randall? Or whoever is promoting it is offering Wisky a nice payday. Something like that.
Not sure it matters to Minnesota. If they’re ok playing outdoors it’s better that the game is at Soldier than CR (IMO at least). If they aren’t ok with playing it outdoors then it doesn’t really matter.
And yes, TDG meetup for sure.
Promotion for the new B1G hockey conference, I believe
B1G HQ is in Chi-town, and this is a marquee college hockey rivalry to promote the new conference. They apparently believe they’ll get more pub having the game in Chicago instead of Lambeau, Camp Randall or TCF.

If it was all about the B1G, then why not get Michigan and MSU into it?
Minnesota/Michigan with a Wisconsin/MSU/OSU and/or PSU/Illinois (both ACHA D-1 members) undercard would be a knockout B1G lineup.
The ND vs. ??? also is a curious lineup if the B1G were truly involved, unless they completely ran away with it and matched them up with MSU, Michigan or OSU. HOCKEY!!!

Now that I've finally read the article.....
I did find it funny that the article mentioned how the Badgers used the outdoor games to lock in two of their “most prominent recruits”. I wonder who would benefit more in recruiting around Chicago from this matchup…
In theory, the whole idea sounds kinda silly, but if it’s played, I’ll be there.
