How he fits

Laster has really good raw measurables for a potential B1G outside linebacker. Athletic and long armed, his length and quick first step allow him to cover more ground than his straight line speed would indicate. De'Niro also shows the ability to blitz effectively, a trait that will come in handy in Claeys' aggressive scheme.

Chances to play in 2013

Marginal. Laster is relatively new to the position and I tend to agree with ESPNU's evaluation that he could stand to gain more flexibility in his knees. His playing strength also needs to improve, though he does show an ability to drive through ballcarriers rather than lunge and drag. He's also the biggest of the incoming prep linebackers.

Ultimately, whether he earns playing time is dependent upon how well some of the younger linebackers from previous classes have developed and are ready to step up.
