My Top 5 Gopher Tailgate Songs

GoAUpher: Bumped because A) fun topic and B) WE'RE SERIOUSLY ONLY ONE WEEK AWAY YOU GUYS!

We are a week from the first tailgate of the year. Those aspiring house DJs like myself are now compiling our awesome playlists to be pumped in the parking lots around campus. Here is a top five list I came up while biking in to work this morning.

Super internet disclaimer. This is MY top 5 tailgate songs matching my preferences for music and what I know folks with me will like. I have tried to keep cross genres (boring if it's all classic rock). Feel free to flame, but not without posting your top 5 first. I am also not including school fight songs, but they should be mixed in. Also, I intentionally excluded AC/DC because they show up on every single pump up list ever, but Back in Black would have made it in otherwise. Country is not allowed at my tailgate.

5.) Chiddy Bang - Opposite of Adults

Pop/Fun Category. This song sampled MGMT's Kids and came out with a perfect song to engage a crowd. It was on the top of my 2012 list (if I had made one) and was requested to be replayed many times. (Honorable mentions: Wiz Khalifa - Work Hard, Play Hard, Macklemore - Thrift Shop, Lorde - Royals)

4.) Avicci - Levels

Dance Category. Astute Gopher fans will also realize this is the song used for "Do the Gopher" dance at all Gopher atheletic events, so you can get bonus points for tying it in.

3.) Flogging Molly - Drunken Lullabies

Celtic Punk Category. Everybody loves a little Celtic Punk and Flogging Molly is the best of the bunch. (Honorable mention: Dropkick Murphy's - Kiss me I'm S***faced)

2.) Doomtree - Bangarang

Local Hip-hop Category. Every Minnesotan knows we love to keep it local. This banger will impress your hipster friends while being catchy enough to entertain a large crowd. (Honorable mentions: Brother Ali - Preacher, P.O.S. - F*** Your Stuff, Atmosphere - Trying to Find a Balance, Doomtree - Game Over, many others)

1b.) Nuthin' But A G Thang

Old School Hip-hop Category. I love old school hip hop and any list needs a heavy dose. This needs to be on your playlist. If you have kids, use "earmuffs". (Honorable mentions: LL Cool J - Rock the Bells, Run DMC - King of Rock, Beastie Boys - No Sleep 'til Brooklyn, MC Hammer - You Can't Touch This, many others)

1a.) Journey - Don't Stop Believing

Classic Rock Anthem Category. There are just so many to choose from here, the debate would be endless. As cliched as it is, I chose Don't Stop Believing because it is incredibly fitting for a Gopher fan going to the first game of the year. We refuse to stop believing that we will be 13-0 this year. This song should be either the last song of your pre-game tailgate, or second to last if you require to end on a Minnesota Rouser. (Honorable mentions: Any AC/DC song, any Led Zep song, any Pink Floyd song, too many to list)

I apologize for sneaking 6 in to my top 5 list, but I had to. Enjoy, some cliched music, some new stuff. Mix it up in 2013! Thanks for reading. I left hundreds of songs off the list, to feel free to share which ones should have made the cut.
