New York City- The Gophers took a one possession lead into the break. The efficiency numbers saw 29 possessions for Minnesota, 28 for SMU at what is a pedestrian pace with a number of trips on both sides, going deep into the clock. Minnesota owned a 103-96 edge in offensive efficiency .
The first four minutes following intermission saw each club with six possessions. SMU out scored Minnesota 9-4 to take a 36-34 lead a the 1 minute time out. That gave SMU an efficiency lead of 150-67 for the start of he half. Not a good start for Richard pitino's club as Minnesota has turnovers the first two possessions and a shot clock violation shortly after. That was half of their first six second half possessions wasted without a shot. Those empty trips could be detrimental in what is a close contest.
