Silent Phase Coming to an End?

9

Look for the University of Minnesota this week to announce corporate donations totaling nearly $30 million as the official kickoff of the Gophers' $190 million athletics facilities improvement project.

Charlie Walters of the Pioneer Press dropped a little nugget obtained from his usual "little birdies." If true, the silent phase is indeed coming to a close and #HailTeague will be ready to start the public phase for new facilities in earnest,

Coach Kill On Brock Being Drafted By Chicago

"I am thrilled for Brock as he begins his NFL journey in Chicago. Brock is one of the smartest and most versatile players I have ever had the privilege of coaching and is an outstanding young man. He is the ultimate team player and will do whatever is needed to help the Bears win. I know he is going to make Chicago a better team and will also be a great teammate in the locker room. He will be playing for a great coach and even a better man in Bears head coach and former Gopher quarterback Marc Trestman. I am also excited for Brock's parents, as they now have two sons in the NFL with Brock in Chicago and Shane in New England. It’s a great day for the Bears, Gophers and Vereen family."

Coach Kill on Shede Being Drafted By Atlanta

"I could not be more proud of Ra’Shede, as he has worked tremendously hard to get to this point. It is a special moment that he will never forget, and I am glad that his parents, his high school coach Giovan Jenkins and Rebecca and I were here to see it. This is not only a great moment for him, but also for our program, the University and the state of Minnesota. The Atlanta Falcons are not only getting a relentless football player, but also a college graduate. Atlanta is a great fit for Ra’Shede and his best years are still to come. I know he will continue to work hard every day to represent the Falcons, but also the Gophers, as he pursues his NFL dream."

Ted Mondale, who heads the new Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority that will oversee the new Vikings stadium on the site of the Metrodome, said one of the undecided questions about the stadium is whether the Vikings will continue to play in the Dome in 2014 or at the Gophers' TCF Bank Stadium that year. Although the plan six months ago was to play one season (2015) at the Gophers' stadium, there is now a chance the Vikings could end up playing two seasons there. A decision is expected next spring.

If the Vikings were to play an additional season at TCF Bank Stadium, the Gophers would net an additional $3,000,000 ($6,000,000 total over two seasons). In addition to the extra money, with two seasons to be played in the stadium, there is a greater chance that the Vikings would put in additional permanent seating.

University of Minnesota head football coach Jerry Kill has announced the dismissal of Ge’Shun Harris for a violation of team policies. Kill was made aware of criminal charges filed against Harris on March 5 early Thursday afternoon. At that point, Harris was immediately dismissed from the team. "We had no idea about this situation until today," Kill said. "Based on our team policies and the way we run our program, Ge’Shun Harris was immediately dismissed from our football program. Every member of our team is well-aware of our expectations of them and how we enforce our team policies." Coach Kill will have no further comment on the matter.

Penn State won this game because of two bad stretches from the Gophers. The last couple minutes of the last 10 games have been under the microscope but chew on this... FIRST HALF 14-2 run over 4:51 span (-12) SECOND HALF 12-1 run over 3:56 (-11) 8:47 - Penn State was +23 31:13 - Minnesota was +20 I know the first half dry spell was directly following a four man line change by Tubby and our scoring left the floor for a few minutes.

University of Minnesota director of athletics Joel Maturi and head men’s basketball coach Tubby Smith announced Wednesday that that there would be no change in the playing status of junior forward Trevor Mbakwe. "Trevor had a lapse in judgment," Smith said. "I believe his actions were well intended, but misguided, and we have made the decision not to suspend him after looking into the matter further. We believe this is the appropriate thing for Trevor and the program at this time. We view this as an educational opportunity for all of our players."
