Jerry Kill and Tubby Smith each want facilities upgrades

But who gets the money? New AD Norwood Teague is being pressed by both coaches for facility upgrades to their respective programs, but finance limitations means that probably only one will get the funding immediately. Jerry Kill called the football practice facility an "eyesore in recruiting," and Tubby Smith has complained that Minnesota still doesn't have a separate practice facility for basketball. Kill believes that an upgrade to the football facility would cost a cool 3 million. Shouldn't be tough for someone with Teague's resume. Adam Rittenberg believes that Teague's background in basketball makes it more likely that he'll focus on fundraising for Smith's practice facility. It is also possible that Teague, in his first major decision as athletic director, would prioritize football first and meet Kill's needs. Thoughts?

Gopher Basketball Pursuing 5-Star PF, Perry Ellis

Nation of Blue, a Kentucky blog, caught up with Perry Ellis for some questions. Ellis is a 5-star PF out of Wichita, Kansas. His offer list includes Kansas, Kansas State, Kentucky, Memphis, Oklahoma and Wichita St. When asked about those schools he mentioned that Tubby Smith has recently called as well. "They are still on the list. Assistant coach Crutch (Chris Crutchfield) came to open gym in April and Coach Kruger has called and e-mails my mom. I stil have the same six on my list. Tubby Smith called me tonight though." Doesn't mean we are in this final two or three schools but the call was important enough for him to mention without being prompted or specifically asked. Should also be noted that if Ellis's mom is involved in the process that has often been a good thing for Tubby in recruiting.

Let the Tubby to Wake rumors begin

Alabama? - no Virginia? - no Auburn? - no Oregon? - no Georgia Tech? - wasn't open Wake Forest? - So far this is just a list of potential candidates, but we all know how this is going to play out over the next several days. Tubby Smith Develops Players Like Dan Monson?

The link above is to a Reusse article, so take it with that caveat, but the heat does seem to be intensifying on Tubby Smith. Is it justified, in this case over player development?

Pat Forde Tweets that Tubby's father passed away

I haven't seen this anywhere else, but if true my thoughts and prayers are with he and his family.

Tubby gets his first commitment for class of 2010

Meet Elliot Eliason a 6'11" center from Chadron High School in Nebraska. Eliason was at the Air Force game last weekend for a visit and verbally committed this week. This commitment leaves 2 scholarships available. With Damian Johnson, Lawrence Westbrook and Devron Bostick graduating I would expect the remaining two scholarships to go to a SG and a SF. According to Myron over at the STrib Eliason averaged 15 pts, 10 rebs and four bcks per game as a junior when he earned Nebraska's Gatorade Player of the Year honors.

Cory Joseph makes unofficial visit today

The Rivals 5-star PG, brother of Devoe Joseph (like you didn't already know this), is unofficially visiting the University of Minnesota today. Here is a Rivals article by Ryan James on the visit (subscription required). "Yes Cory is on campus right now staying with Devoe and on an unofficial visit," said Ro Russell who runs Grassroots Canada basketball and has coached both Cory and Devoe. "Cory has a good interest in the school and that is why he is there right now to see how high the interest is going to be."
