Time for Gopher Fans to Have Some Fun Too

In the place of a preview I want to make a plea to Gopher fans. Let's have some fun with the rest of the season. The Tim Brewster era is over. Jeff Horton is taking over the reigns temporarily and in his initial press conference he stressed that the coaching staff and the players are going to have some fun.

We're going to have fun over these last five games. We're not going to sit around here and be doom and gloom, morbid place. I'm not going to allow that. I'm not going to wallow in pity. I'm not going to feel sorry for myself and I'm not going to let anybody else. If anybody wants to be like that, we're not going to have them around. We want to have some fun, let the kids feed off our energy, see how we respond to adversity.

I think that is exactly the attitude Gopher fans need to adopt as well. What do we have to lose at this point? The season is over, what is the difference between 5 more losses or 4 more losses? We can all have fun following the coaching search and we have five Saturdays left to have some fun watching Gopher football.

There are 40 Saturdays throughout the year when we are not given the opportunity to watch our favorite squad. 12 Saturdays is not very many and seven of those are gone! Regardless of how uncompetitive this team may be on any given Saturday, we only have five more Saturdays to watch them. That is of course followed by 40 Saturdays anticipating Gopher football 2011. Get behind this team and let them know it.

I know where were some who were rooting for the Gophers to lose citing the greater good of the program if we lose now and can then move on to a new staff. Well the voice of the fan was heard and Tim Brewster is no longer driving this bus. The coaching search is underway and a new era will begin soon enough. But until then we have the opportunity to watch Big Ten football for just over another month.

I'm sure most of you have heard the expression a bad day of golf is better than a good day at work. Well that is true for golf and I'm suggesting it is true for Gopher football. Get out to the games and have some fun. Don't just sit there and watch the game but be loud, let the kids on the field know that you are a Gopher fan for life and you stand behind them.

RAH-RAH-RAH for Ski-U-Mah and cheer for the U of MN!
