Gopher baseball shuts out Kansas State

It has been an up and down season for Gopher baseball this season but they finally notched a win over ranked opponent with a 3-0 shutout at Kansas State. This was the first time this season the #20 Wildcats have been shutout.

Sophomore Austin Lubinsky (LaCrosse, Wis.), freshman Billy Soule (Hamel, Minn.) and Scott Matyas (North Prairie, Minn.) did not allow a runner to get past second base on the afternoon, as they combined to three-hit an offense that came into today hitting .341 as a team.

Offensively catcher, Kyle Knudson can claim one RBI with 1st inning single and sophomore first baseman, Nick O'Shea got the other two with a 2-run homer. For the Wildcats this was only their third home loss this season (19-3). AJ Petterson also went 2/3 with a walk and one of the runs scored.

This has to be an uplifting win for the program as they prepare to host Michigan for a pivotal weekend series in a Big Ten race that has five teams within a game of first place. Currently Michigan is tied for first with an 9-6 conference record and Minnesota is tied for third at 8-7.
