July is upon us, the last month before football gets started and we can put the spring/summer blogging doldrums behind us.
Speaking of football, Tim Brewster and staff have secured their sixth verbal commitment of the 2011 recruiting class. Samuel Oyenuga from Rowlett, Texas is that young man. Oyenuga is a 6'0" corner who had no other significant offers. While Oyenuga is not yet guru ranked, he does bring a very nice academic resume to the program with his 1380 SAT and a 3.0 GPA.
As mentioned this brings our current verbally committed class to six members. Tommy Olson is a nice name to have on that list but the rest of the list is lacking any real pizazz.
Name | State | Position | Stars | Comment |
Tommy Olson | MN | OL | 3 | Best player in the state |
Max Shortell | KS | QB | 3 | top 20 pro-style QB according to Rivals |
Quinn Bauducco | CA | LB | 3 | #31 ILB and #84 in state of California, great size |
Sam Rohr |
WI | TE | 2 | 10th player in Wisconsin |
Samuel Oyenuga | TX | CB | n/a | no ranking, plays in class 5A |
Jephete Matilus | FL | LB | n/a | Delray Beach native, had Illinois offer |
There will be a lot more to come and it is very possibly that the names you see above may change as well.
- Gopher baseball finished the season receiving votes in the NCBWA baseball poll.
- Also, several guys are playing summer ball and are having strong summers.
- KSTP has a brief video of Hoffarber explaining that he's not worried about Tubby leaving.
- You thought that we had it rough? Certainly the Gophers have mired in mediocrity for years. But some schools haven't even made a bowl game in a decade or more.
