Well the Gopher hoops winning streak is over but I think we all saw that one coming. What nobody saw coming was the Gopher Women winning their second game in a row. After starting the Big Ten season 0-7 the women beat Northwestern earlier this week and then they upset Michigan who was formerly tied for first place in the conference.

Pam Borton was very happy with her team's new winning streak.

"I’m very proud of our team—a great team defensive effort. We followed the game plan for the majority of the game defensively. I thought we did a great job against a very, very efficient, disciplined Michigan team on offense and defense. I was a little worried about halftime, being up. They’re a team that’s a second half team, scores over 40 points in the second half. I didn’t tell my players that, but knew that we needed a very, very, very intense and smart second half, and they came out and I was very proud of our team for taking care of the ball. A lot of people stepped up in the last four minutes and made plays. I think we’ve really grown and matured into a very good basketball team."

Obviously we don't cover women's hoops much ever, but this is a young team that finally notched a big win this season. Two seniors on the roster (one who starts) and two conference wins. This win might have saved Pam Borton's job for a while.
