The USA University Games team defeated Mexico 108-67 in their first game. Our own Trevor Mbakwe started for team USA and it should come as no surprise to any of us that he recorded a double-double. Ashton Gibbs of Pittsburgh led the USA WUGs team with 20 points. Mbakwe was second on the team with 12 points and led the team with 10 rebounds.

You can find a number of quotes from Mbakwe and other members of the team here. When asked about the USA team's chemistry Mbakwe had this to say.

We just started playing with each other yesterday. A lot of these teams have been playing together for a long time. I think the chemistry is there. We’re a very balanced team and we’re very deep, too. That’s going to help us. We have 12 guys who can play and at some point each of us could win the game for us. We’re all comfortable with each other. We’re like a family. The two weeks that we’ve had, we’ve come together and we’re all excited to play with one another.

Up next is Hungary on Sunday. The Hungary team lost their first game 60-67 to Isreal.

When I get updates I will pass them along to you.
