Minnesota Football Recruiting: Chris Streveler Officially Signs with Gophers

How he fits

Streveler is the mold of quarterback Kill and Limegrover have consistently developed into winners at the D1 level. More than athletic enough to make plays with his feet, Chris was exceptionally productive in high school (over 3500 yards and 48 total touchdowns his senior year), completely dominating the opposition en route to consecutive Player of the Year awards. The Marion Central Catholic product worked hard between his junior and senior seasons to shorten and improve his throwing motion, a strategy that paid off as he completed nearly 70% of his passes as a senior. Kill will no doubt talk about the "it factor" with Streveler.

Chances to play in 2013

I want to say low, especially since it'd be better for the program if he were able to redshirt and gain some separation between he and Phillip Nelson, but my head simply cannot rationalize such a hope. Streveler is a Nelson injury away from assuming the role as de facto #2 QB behind Mitch Leidner; as 2012 showed Gopher fans, best laid plans at QB can change in a hurry. Add in that Streveler has already enrolled at Minnesota and is participating in offseason condition/spring practice, and one can see the possibility, even slim, of Chris playing this season.
