Richard Pitino and his staff have signed the third player of their 2014 class. After securing Josh Martin in September and Nate Mason last week, they have received a verbal from JUCO shooting guard Carlos Morris.
Morris is a shooting guard who had committed to South Carolina out of high school.
The Facts are These
Home: Apalachicola, Fla.
School: Chipola J.C. (Florida)
Rank/Stars: consensus 3-star, #7 JUCO prospect in 247 composite rankings.
As a freshman at Chipola last year, playing with Sam Cassel Jr., Morris averaged 13.3 pts, 4.1 reb, 2.1 ast and 1.3 steals.
Out of high school, this is what ESPN had to say about the young man.
He's a big, athletic guard. With the ball in his hands he gets where he wants on the floor and has tremendous length. He's got the makings of an excellent defensive guard. Can switch from creator to scorer with relative ease. Will make his share of 3s. Can at least be a secondary ball handler.
Another kid who appears to be a very good fit for Pitino and his system. Lengthy guard who can shoot, can handle the ball and who can defend. I know that is about the shortest "analysis" you may ever see on an incoming basketball recruit but I think it nails it. Morris will have 2 years to play and should be an immediate contributor.
The staff still has 1 scholarship to play with for this class (bear in mind that rosters are often in flux and if they need another scholarship they'll figure out a way). And landing a JUCO player in this class is a nice way to start to balance out the classes a little bit with just 2 sophomores and 2 freshmen on the roster currently.
The final scholarship? Well Reid Travis is planning to announce his decision next Friday. This would be a very nice centerpiece of the class that is balanced and full of kids who would appear to be perfect fits.
Welcome to the family Mr. Morris. You should fit in beautifully.
