Golden Nugz - 6.7.13 - Drew Goodger till Gopher Football

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Drew Goodger is a JR tight end for your Golden Gophers. He started seven games and caught three touchdowns, including one against Iowa. In high school his Shawnee Mission Northwest HS team played in the Sunflower League. Really. Most importantly he wears #83 and there are 83 days until Gopher Footbawl!

Today's quick Nugz...

  • This story is on 10 coaches who were fired after having good seasons. Tubby Smith comes in at #3 partially because "His last season was his most successful, making it to the Sweet Sixteen as an 11-seed before bowing out to Florida." Since we aren't interested in being factually correct why not have him losing in the Final Four? I thought about hunting the author down on Twitter or e-mail but why bother. The point is that he did have a successful season and did take the Gophers to three NCAA Tournaments, but he was one win shy of the Sweet 16.
  • Gopher's pitcher, Tom Windle was drafted by the Dodgers in the 2nd round last night. You can read Dodger fan reactions here at True Blue LA. Let us all hope that contract negotiations hit a wall and he returns to Minnesota.
  • The Twins drafted a couple pitchers, get the thoughts of the Twinkie Town guys.
  • Tyus Jones has earned the #1 spot in 247sports.com's latest rankings.
  • Rashad Vaughn had a big weekend in LA.
  • If you are interested in future NCAA Tournament sites, this is your link. We are all rooting for the Gophers to get a bid into the Milwaukee first round site next year.
  • On the road, Coach Kill gave a state of the program speech.
  • And Coach Pitino gave us his player by player thoughts. I think we can glean that this was good news for Hollins, Hollins, Walker, Ahanmisi, Mathieu and I think Elliason. I didn't get warm-fuzzies for Oto and possibly Ellenson.
  • Kevin Sumlin (former Minnesota ast coach and current Texas A&M head coach, you may recall that I really wanted him a few years ago), he sat down for an interview with SBN's Jason Kirk. Good stuff.
