University of Minnesota senior middle blocker Tori Dixon (Burnsville, Minn.) kicked off the 2013 season as the Big Ten Player of the Week, announced today by the conference office. The player of the week honors is the first of her career and the middle blocker's fourth weekly award as a Golden Gopher.
Dixon aided the Gophers to four 3-0 wins at the UAB/Samford Challenge. Dixon led the Gophers in kills (49), kills per set (4.08), hitting percentage (.472), total blocks (11), blocks per set (0.92) and points (58).
Hats Off To You Tori!
So what's next for the Tori and Gopher volleyeball? The Gophers open their home slate by hosting the Diet Coke Classic this Friday and Saturday (9/6-9/7) at the Sports Pavilion. The Diet Coke Classic will include Ball State, Duke and Western Illinois. Minnesota opens the Classic at 7:30 on Friday against Ball State, with 2 more matches coming on Saturday at 11 (Western Illinois) and 7:30 (Duke).
If you've never checked out a Gophers VB match at The Pav, this upcoming weekend looks like a good time to start. Don't worry if you aren't a great volleyball mind (I'm not either). My experience is that volleyball fans are very friendly and are willing to take the time to help you learn the game.
