Cincinnati (OH) Archbishop Moeller HS receiver Isaiah Gentry committed to Minnesota during an in-home visit with Coach Kill last night, becoming the 17th member of the Gophers' 2014 recruiting class and second receiver pledge this week. Gentry had a standout senior campaign for the Ohio Division I state champions, notching over 1100 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.
Gentry is rated as a 3 star prospect according to 247Sports' Industry Composite and flipped his commitment from Kent State to Minnesota. Isaiah also had listed offers from Rutgers, Bowling Green and Akron. Gentry also runs the 400m and relay for the Archbishop Moeller track team.

Gentry brings another element to the Gopher receiving corps and is a nice compliment to the existing wideouts already on campus. Isaiah may be the best pure depth threat of all the receivers signed in the last two classes, as his length, catching radius and hands allow him to pluck passes at the high point and win one-on-one match ups with regularity. He also knows how to use double moves to set up defensive backs and get open vertically, a talent that will come in handy as the Minnesota passing game has been known to use double moves against off-coverage.
Between Gentry and Holland, Isaiah is the more polished receiver of the two. However, Gentry needs to work on his overall strength and add bulk, since his long frame and strides make him susceptible to jams at the line. He'll also need to improve his physicality, since he'll be asked to block on the edge quite a bit. Still, Isaiah's knack for big plays and ability to stretch the field may earn him playing time sooner rather than later.
Lastly, Gentry received a qualifying score late in the recruiting process, which combined with his Kent State commitment forced many BCS level programs to back off. Score this as another case where the Gopher staff continues to evaluate prospects deep into their senior year to see the entire direction of a prospect's development rather than what he did his junior season.
