2014 College Football Poll Rankings Week 8: Minnesota Gophers Just Outside The Top 25

Another win moves the Gophers even closer to an appearance in the polls.

Kevin C. Cox

We've been running these poll watching pieces all season. The Gophers have been mentioned once or twice, but always in jest. Clearly the Gophers have not been worthy of a Top 25 discussion. Are they now? Well...no. Not in my opinion at least. But they have climbed far enough up the Others Receiving Votes list where I can talk about them without having to come up with a silly gag or tie in.

Where are the Gophers? 29th in the AP poll, 28th in the Coaches poll, and 42nd in the Sagarin rankings. The bit of news that should excite many of you? Minnesota's 36 points in the AP poll are far better than Wisconsin's 1 point (/looks for Iowa //giggles) and their 78 points in the Coaches are better than Wisconsin's 34 or Iowa's 15. What's that? You want to know Sagarin? Let's not. I hear his servers have a known bias for stinky cheeses and pig poop. Does any of this mean anything? Of course not. Will that stop me from going WOO! over the completely worthless human polls? It will not.

Quick Thoughts About Actual Top 25:

- CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA

- What? I'm just trying to get you all acclimated for what you're going to have to deal with now that Mississippi State is in first place in both polls.

You think I'm kidding?

I can assure I am not kidding.

No seriously, don't make me prove it.

Sigh...fine:

I warned you.

- Despite Mark Dantonio's best efforts, the Spartans beat Purdue and remain in the Top 10.

- TCU, sweet TCU. I don't know what to tell you. You were looking pretty good for the CFB Playoff for a while there.

- I see Arizona was indeed this week's UCLA. Twitter says I missed quite the end to a game though. Stupid Eastern Time Zone.

- I see you SEC bias, propping Texas A&M up for another week. No I do not care that they just lost to the current #1 and #3 back to back. B1G team does that they drop.

- OH HAI THERE MARSHALL. Seriously, didn't know they were undefeated.
