Dixon Wins GOLD!
I can't believe I missed this! On Sunday Team USA won their first ever World Championship in Volleyball. A big part of that team was Gopher alum Tori Dixon who played in all 13 games. Team USA defeated China in the championship match, which took place in Milan, Italy, in four sets (27-25, 25-20, 16-25, 26-24). Congradulations Tori Dixon & Team USA!
While at the University of Minnesota, Tori, the daughter of former NFL player David Dixon, was a first team All American and a unanimous All Big Ten player. She ranks 5th on the all time list as a Gopher for blocking (507), 9th in kills (1,479) and 1st in career hitting percentage (.369). Besides being a first team All-American her senior year, she was a 2nd team member her junior year and an honorable mention both her sophomore and freshman years.
On Team USA she started out the tournament as the starting middle blocker but later was used as a relief server off of the bench. Per her TeamUSA profile she "started three matches of FIVB World Grand Prix, totaling 54 points (2.35 scoring average) with a 0.65 block average and .400 hitting efficiency."
Tori Dixon currently plays professionally in Azerbaijan for the club Rabita Baku. If you follow her on Twitter you will see that she is still a very active supporter of the Gophers. Go Gophers! Go Team USA!
