2014 College Football Poll Rankings: Minnesota #24 In Coaches, Unranked In AP In Week 9

The Coaches Poll made room for Minnesota this week!

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

One down. One to go. Earlier today, it was revealed that your Minnesota Gophers were voted #24 in the country in the Coaches Poll. Given how close the Gophers were last week (28th), this isn't a huge surprise. Nor it is a huge honor, as teams come and go from the edge of the Top 25 all the time. What it is however is another sign that just past the halfway mark of the season the Gophers have the chance to do something special.

Some will be upset by the fact that Minnesota is still only 28th in the AP Poll. I'm here to tell you don't worry about that. First, it's not disrespect. The Gophers haven't had a breakout game against a good opponent and their most recent win was a squeeker over Purdue. That's not going to vault you into the rankings most weeks.

This Minnesota team has the chance to be ranked higher in both polls and they have the chance to be noticed. But they'll have to earn it. The first step is to continue what they've been doing and win this weekend at Illinois. From there, every single game they play the rest of the way will be notable in one form or another. Trust me, if they're winning those games they'll get their rankings.

- See FSU? Beat Notre Dame and the computers will like you again.

- I see the AP is #SECDRUNK again.

- Michigan State, with everything that's happened you should still have a shot at the playoff. Don't blow it now...

- TCU, right back in it.

- Both Arizona schools in the Top 15 at the same time. This is a weird year.

- Get over your UCLA fetish AP voters.
