Big Ten Football Power Poll: Week 8

WE HAVE A CHANGE AT THE TOP!!!

JT Barrett. He good.
JT Barrett. He good.
Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

As a member of the "working media" we get requests to help out other "media" in their articles and pursuits.  Then sometimes we get to steal their ideas and content for our own gain.  Thus, we bring you the Big Ten Power Poll!

I am a voting member in two power polls this season on other websites.  If you want to compare my votes to other "writers" from around the Big Ten, I'm sure they would love a click as well.  Check out the Rutgers Blog www.SalSoothsayer and another blog covering the whole conference, www.talking10.com.

Here is the poll after week 4:

Big Ten East

1. Ohio State

I had said I was not going to drop the Spartans until they lost... but 4 straight games over 50 points!  J.T. Barrett is arguably the best quarterback in the Big Ten seven games into his freshman season.  November 8th is going to be one hell of a day in the Big Ten.

2. Michigan State

It was earlier in the game against Indiana when I decided on this switch.  Then MSU went and made me maybe look silly.

3.Maryland

Who Hates Iowa?  Well now apparently the Terps hate Iowa.

4. Rutgers

They was a ugly loss to Ohio State.  But no one else really wants this spot so...

5. Michigan

A bye week makes me decide to move the Wolverines over Penn State.  With Michigan playing MSU and Penn State playing OSU this week, who ever loses less ugly might have this spot next week.

6. Penn State

The Nittany Lions are in trouble.  Even though they could go to a bowl game....they might not.

7. Indiana

Poor Tevin Coleman.  Man you are getting screwed. (yeah, I guess I can pretty much put this in this spot every week)

Big Ten West

1. Nebraska

If Northwestern had made it closer I may have moved out the Huskers.  But they didn't.  So they stay.

2.Minnesota

The Gophers didn't make it pretty, but they got the W.  One more "easy" one before things get interesting

3. Wisconsin

Bye week and no other great looking teams mean UW stays put.

4. Iowa

I can't jump Purdue up this high yet, but f they keep playing how they did in the last two games, and Iowa looks as lost as they did at the end of the Maryland game, it won;t be long before they flip.

5.Purdue

The Boilermakers put a scare into the Gophers this week but just couldn't get the job done.  They looked like a team on the rise and could continue to move on up.

6.Northwestern

Reality is starting to set in....and stats actually matter.

7. Illinois

Firmly planted.  The Gophers should keep them here next week as well.

Overall

In case you are a pre-divisions purist, and want to see how teams stack up overall, here is my overall Top 14:

1. Ohio State      +1

2. Michigan State       -1

3. Nebraska      NC

4. Minnesota   NC

5. Wisconsin     NC

6. Maryland     NC

7. Iowa           NC

8. Rutgers     NC

9.  Purdue      +3

10. Northwestern     -1

11. Michigan     NC

12. Penn State     -2

13. Indiana       NC

14. Illinois        NC

With the exception of Purdue jumping up and the flop at the top of the east, the rankings stayed mostly the same. We have one more week of relatively "easy" games for teams before the meat of the schedule starts up bigtime in November.
