Big Ten Football Power Poll: Week 6

Movement! We have Movement!

Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

As a member of the "working media" we get requests to help out other "media" in their articles and pursuits.  Then sometimes we get to steal their ideas and content for our own gain.  Thus, we bring you the Big Ten Power Poll!

I am a voting member in two power polls this season on other websites.  If you want to compare my votes to other "writers" from around the Big Ten, I'm sure they would love a click as well.  Check out the Rutgers Blog www.SalSoothsayer and another blog covering the whole conference, www.talking10.com.

Here is the poll after week 4:

Big Ten East

1. Michigan State

They looked like they had Nebraska beat easily, and then almost had a Sparty No! moment, but hung on for the win and the top spot.

2. Ohio State

Well, they cut Maryland down a peg for sure.  to move up it will take a Spartan loss however.

3. Rutgers

Enjoy this for now Scarlet Knight Fans.  I don't think it will last.

4. Penn State

Yes you beat Rutgers...but this poll is all about what you have done for me lately.

5. Maryland

Welcome to the Big Ten.  We can't play doormats every week.

6.Indiana

North Texas does not give you enough cred to move up.

7.Michigan

Yeah.....this is pretty self-explanatory.

Big Ten West

1. Nebraska

The Huskers lost, but yet they still moved up.  They showed backbone in coming back in East Lansing, and frankly, no one has really made a huge argument for this spot.

2.Minnesota

Why not?  This week will mean a lot.  Win over Northwestern and be considered for real.  Choke and lose all credibility.

3. Wisconsin

No quarterbacks > 2 quarterbacks.  When your star running back goes for over 250 and you still lose to Northwestern....ew.

4. Northwestern

Well, I didn;t see that coming.  lets cut that out before this Saturday huh...

5. Iowa

You had a boring bye week, but got leapfrogged by the Wildcats.  Don't choke against the fighting Beckman's this weekend.

6. Purdue

Congrats Purdue.  You won a Big Ten Game.  Enjoy it, cause its all downhill from here.

7. Illinois

You know its bad when your head coach gets compared to Tim Brewster.  Its even worse when people say Brewster was BETTER!

Overall

In case you are a pre-divisions purist, and want to see how teams stack up overall, here is my overall Top 14:

1. Michigan State  NC

2. Ohio State        NC

3. Nebraska      +1

4. Minnesota   +2

5. Rutgers      +3

6. Penn State   +1

7. Wisconsin     -4

8. Northwestern +2

9. Maryland          -4

10. Iowa             -1

11. Indiana       NC

12. Purdue       +2

13. Illinois        -1

14. Michigan     -1

The Gophers and Rutgers are the big gainers this week.  Minnesota by default, plus TCU's big win.  Rutgers may be a bit overvalued, but they will regress soon enough.  Wisconsin and Maryland drop hard.  Maryland maybe a bit too much, but again this is a snapshot in time, not a final ranking prediction.

Its interesting to see others votes too.  Must of the other Big Ten Voters have Northwestern ranked ahead of Minnesota.  One even had them #1 in the West.  Hopefully they get taken down a peg on Saturday.

Arguments?  Likes?  Dislikes?  Think I am an idiot?  Tell me in the comments.
