HATS OFF TO MAXX!
There is no question that Maxx Williams is one of (if not the) best tight end in the country. And today that fact was recognized once again by the John Mackey Award committee as Maxx was named as a semi-finalist for the award. Here's the full list of semifinalists:
Player Name | Class | School |
E.J. Bibbs | Senior | Iowa State |
Evan Engram | Sophomore | Mississippi |
Ben Koyack | Senior | Notre Dame |
Jimmay Mundine | Senior | Kansas |
Jean Sifrin | Junior | Massachusetts |
Nick O'Leary | Senior | Florida State |
Clive Walford | Senior | Miami |
Maxx Williams | RS Sophomore | Minnesota |
I'll be honest with you, if Maxx doesn't end up as a finalist for the Mackey I'll be pretty frustrated. Like, Adam Wilcox not being a Hobey Finalist frustrated. Why? Well, his numbers are certainly worthy...
Williams is T-1st in TDs (7) & 4th in yards per catch (14.9) among Mackey semifinalists. He is one of two sophomores on the list. #Maxxion

...and no other tight end on the list is as important to his team.
No other Mackey semifinalist accounts for as much of his team's rec. yds (27.7%) & rec. TDs (63.6%) as Maxx Williams. #Maxxion

Plus, do any of the other nominees have a multiple highlight reel catches, including two from a single game? I'm guessing not.
Oh, and he runs guys over like a semi.
