Knew about Boyd. Skeji is new. Looks like frosh D will get more action "@GopherPuckLive: Don Lucia….. Boyd & Skjei out a few weeks."
— Andy York (@yorka1982) November 4, 2014
On the heels of losing senior forward Travis Boyd for a month, Don Lucia casually dropped the news that the Gophers will also be without the talents of junior defenseman Brady Skjei for at least a few weeks as well (via Gonzalez at the Strib):
Gophers hockey junior defenseman Brady Skjei will miss at least a few weeks with a lower-body injury, coach Don Lucia said on his weekly ESPN 1500 radio show on Monday night.
...
Skjei left Saturday’s 4-3 overtime victory midway through the second period and was seen walking fine after the game. Lucia originally listed him as day-to-day before Monday’s reassessment.
How long are we talking? As with most injuries, we do not know. But The Don did say that he hoped that Skjei could play during the Gophers trip out east to face Boston College and Northeastern. That East Coast swing takes place over Thanksgiving weekend so the goal is to have Brady back in about 3 weeks.
Skjei's absence means that freshman defenders Ryan Collins, Jack Glover and Steve Johnson will see increased playing time. Here's hoping one of them steps up and earns himself the right to step in for Skjei full time next season.
