This week has been tough on me (workload) but last weekend was a pretty good weekend for Gopher Non-Rev Sports. The Volleyball team went undefeated in their quest to be champions of the Diet Coke Classic (hosted by the U of M) while the Soccer team split their road trip and Big Ten opening out in Michigan. Both the Men's and Women's Cross-Country team was also busy. Please keep reading for a quick recap and links to both the week that was and the upcoming weekend.

As I said above, they were undefeated with comfortable wins; but that's not to say they weren't challenged, each of their opponents won one set. For more information click on the links below. One of the non-sport highlights came when Gopher star Daly Santana's father, famed musician Ellias Santana, played the national anthem on his trumpet before the Milwaukee game. It was Ellias's first time seeing Daly compete as a Gopher.
- Game 1 vs Tulsa (25-17, 17-25, 25-22, 25-11)
- Game 2 vs Milwaukee (26-28, 25-22, 25-18, 25-23)

The Gophers (7-1, 0-0) head to Toledo to end their non-conference schedule. They will face Duquesne & Toledo on Friday plus IPFW on Saturday in the Rocket Invitational. Minnesota should win these games and are currently ranked #17 in the nation.
In alumni news, Tori Dixon was named to the Team USA Worlds Roster.

Last Friday the Gophers lost another tough game in Overtime when the played in Ann Arbor to open up the Big Ten Season. On Sunday they did a great job by fighting back and beating a good Michigan State on the road, again in overtime!

The Gophers just play one team this weekend when they have their Big Ten home opener against Iowa on Saturday at 7:00 pm. Iowa (7-1-0, 2-0-0) is ranked #36 in the nation but considering how we have played other teams ranked above us this year (FSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota should have a shot to win. Minnesota enters the game with a record of 4-4-0 (1-1-0).

Two weeks ago both the men & women had their season openers at home with the Oz Memorial with many high placed finishes among the teams including an individual title. Last weekend the men won the UC (University of CA) Riverside Invitational with Junior Aaron Bartnik being named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week by setting a personal best 8 kilometer time of 24:07 and leading the Gophers to victory. While the men traveled to California, the #25 ranked women were busy winning the team tittle in Provo, Utah at the BYU Autumn Classic. 5 Gophers finished in the top 10 being led by Becca Dyson who placed second.
