Big Ten Football Power Poll: Week 5

Big Ten play sees some Big movement..

Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports

As a member of the "working media" we get requests to help out other "media" in their articles and pursuits.  Then sometimes we get to steal their ideas and content for our own gain.  Thus, we bring you the Big Ten Power Poll!

I am a voting member in two power polls this season on other websites.  If you want to compare my votes to other "writers" from around the Big Ten, I'm sure they would love a click as well.  Check out the Rutgers Blog www.SalSoothsayer and another blog covering the whole conference, www.talking10.com.

Here is the poll after week 4:

Big Ten East

1. Michigan State

Beating Craig Bohl and Wyoming is just another warmup to the main event against Nebraska this weekend

2. Ohio State

They took a decent Cincinnati team to the woodshed.  They are looking better and batter as J.T. Barrett sees more action.  A Spartan struggle next week could see the Buckeyes move up.

3. Maryland

Maryland took care of Indiana who may have been suffering a bit of a letdown after their big upset of Missouri.  So far the Terps have been taking care of business.

4. Penn State

About that taking care of business thing Nittany Lions....  Northwestern took you guys out, and you are lucky you didn't drop further.

5.Rutgers

Beating up on Tulane won;t get you any movement points.  Now if you take out Michigan this week we can chat.

6.Indiana

Not often do you lose like that to Maryland and move up.  But its not your fault.

7.Michigan

Jugged.  Lame duck coach, maybe a lame duck AD, quarterback controversy.  Yeah this has the potential to get even uglier if that's possible.

Big Ten West

1. Wisconsin

They got off to another slow start but played well late to hang onto this spot.  Though a big Husker win next week will probably usurp them.

2. Nebraska

You did what you needed to do to beat Illinois.  Now lets see how do you against a real Big Ten team.

3. Minnesota

Little Brown Jug.  That's all I need to say.

4. Iowa

You beat your most hated rival in Purdue, and looked like you belong here.  That's good. Enjoy your bye week.

5.Northwestern

You had a really nice win there Wildcats.  Impressive.  Lets see if you can to that to Wisconsin now please.

6.Illinois

Well going into Lincoln that will happen to you sometimes Illinois.  You need to pick it up again if you don't want to drop to Purdue.

7.Purdue

Losing to Iowa was expected.  But if you want a Big Ten win this year, it might be this week or bust.

Overall

In case you are a pre-divisions purist, and want to see how teams stack up overall, here is my overall Top 14:

1. Michigan State  NC

2. Ohio State        NC

3. Wisconsin      NC

4. Nebraska     NC

5. Maryland     +1

6. Minnesota        +2

7. Penn State        -2

8. Rutgers      -1

9. Iowa               NC

10. Northwestern      +2

11. Indiana       NC

12. Illinois       +1

13. Michigan        -3

14. Purdue        NC

The Wolverines keep dropping, the Gophers and Terrapins move on up.  Couple of big games this week that could change things for next week.
