The Minnesota Golden Gophers rebounded from a loss to Maryland on Sunday by collecting their 6th straight road victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes last night. The 76-72 win moves the #23 ranked Gophers to 15-2 on the season. At 4-1 in the Big Ten, they are tied for second place with Iowa and are (obviously) only 1 game back of undefeated Maryland.
The Gophers were led by a career performance from Shae Kelley, who finished with 29 points, 18 rebounds and three blocks. Which should definitely put the senior forward in the running for Big Ten Player of the Week (you would think). It was Kelley's 6th double/double and her first of the Big Ten season. Shae wasn't the only Gopher who set a career best mark. Mikayla Bailey made a career-high five three-pointers on her way to scoring 16 points. Her 12 rebounds made this her second career double-double.
Box Score
Ohio State controlled the game early with leads as large as 8. The Gophers went on a 15-4 run to get their first lead of the game (21-18) with a little over 5 minutes left in the first half. A back and forth end to the first half ended with the Buckeye's leading 28-27. Ohio State's Kelsey Mitchell had a monster first half, hitting 6 three pointers. Shae Kelly also had her double/double in the bag before halftime. The Gophers took the lead immediately in the second half. Ohio State made a late run to get within 2 points with a little over 5 to play, but the Gophers responded with a 6-0 run of their own to put the game away.
Minnesota is back home to take on Indiana at Williams Arena at 2pm on Sunday. The game will be broadcast on Big Ten Network, but you should go see them in person instead!
