3 Keys, 2 Players to Watch, 1 Prediction

Maroon_key_medium Physicality Up Front - Coach Kill said on more than a couple occasions how physical Purdue was up front, particularly with their offensive line against Michigan State. Our defensive front-seven needs to match their physical play as I think that will be key to slowing their offense. I'd also love to see a couple sacks from our defensive line. And our offensive line better be ready to run over whatever is in front of them today.

Maroon_key_mediumRun the Damn Ball (effectively) - I am convinced that this team is going to mix up formations, utilize shits & motions and run the damn ball all day long. Purdue is second to last in the B1G giving up 193 yards per game on the ground. Yes, I know they are going to be preparing to stop us running the ball but we are going to do it effectively anyway. Then when we pound them over and over we will...

Maroon_key_mediumHit Them With a Big Play or Two - Run, run, run, run...then Isaiah Gentry for a big play from Mitch. Or Maye or Jones or whoever, I don't really care. But a big play or two is going to happen today.

OPPOSING PLAYERS TO WATCH

  • #8 RB - Markell Jones - So they are playing with a couple of young running backs too. Jones is a freshman and averaging nearly 7 yards per carry while essentially splitting carries with sophomore D.J. Knox.
  • #24 - LB - Ja'Whaun Bently - 3rd in the Big Ten in tackles, has 7.5 TFLs and needs to be neutralized for the run-heavy offense I'm expecting today.

PREDICTION

I am strangely confident heading into this game. Getting your ass kicked last week tends to get you to focus and prepare like you really need it. This team hasn't been hungry, now they are starving! I see the offense having a big day, maybe it is sustained beyond just today or maybe it is not but today they have a good one.

You will see the return of Shits & Motions, with maybe even a Golden-I sighting.

Minnesota - 27
Purdue - 13
