Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

As a member of the "working media" we get requests to help out other "media" in their articles and pursuits.  Then sometimes we get to steal their ideas and content for our own gain.  Thus, we bring you the Big Ten Power Poll!

I am a voting member in two power polls this season on other websites.  If you want to compare my votes to other "writers" from around the Big Ten, I'm sure they would love a click as well.  Check out the Rutgers Blog www.SalSoothsayer and another blog covering the whole conference, www.talking10.com With out any further delay, I bring you the Week 6 Version, of the Big Ten Power Poll.

Big Ten East

1. Ohio State (Previously #1)

The Buckeyes made it interesting in Randy Edsall's last stand for about three quarters, but finally blew out the Terps.  They stay #1, but have the team up north nipping at their heels.  Penn State comes to the Shoe this week in what Buckeye fans hope will be a much easier game than a year ago.

2. Michigan (Previously #3)

The Wolverine defense is scary good.  They killed a good Northwestern team last week, and jumped above their "little brother" after a few subpar performances from them.  This week will determine who gets the #2 spot until November most likely.

3. Michigan State (Previously #2)

Sparty is really beat up.  Two close games against Purdue and Rutgers are not good signs before going into the Big House this week.  They better hope they can get healthy in a hurry.

4. Penn State (Previously #5)

The Nittany Lions had no problem with Indiana last week and easily jumped them at the moment.  A big game in Columbus looms this weekend.

5. Indiana (Previous #4)

Oh Indiana....not like this.  You dirty tease you.  Just don't lose at home to Rutgers this week and let me really feel bad about thinking you were for real.  .

6. Rutgers (Previously #6)

Rutgers definitely made the game against MSU interesting.  Having Caroo back is huge for the Scarlet Knights.  The game at Indiana Saturday will do a lot to determine how the season shapes up...

7. Maryland (previous #7)

Bye bye Randy Edsall.  We hardly knew ye.

Big Ten West

1. Iowa (Previously #3)

The Hawkeyes are bowl eligible and 1/2 of the way to a #specialseason. Illinois gave them a scare last week, but this week's game at Northwestern may make or break their season.

2. Wisconsin (Previously #3)

Nebraska gave this game to the Badgers.  Frankly they probably don't deserve to be this high..but man that Northwestern game was ugly.  Purdue tries to bring the harbor to the Camp this week.

3.Northwestern (Previously #2)

Michigan took the Wildcats to the woodshed and Adrian Petersoned them over and over again.  Northwestern can get back on track with a win over Iowa this week....a loss and back to meh status they fall.

4. Minnesota (Previously #4)

The Gophers took care of Purdue.  They now need to do it again against Nebraska.

5. Illinois (Previously #5)

Illinois made it a hell of a game at Kinnick against Iowa. They definitely are improved.  A bye week may slow down their momentum a bit though.

6. Nebraska (previously #6)

Oh Huskers...not again.  Well...actually hopefully again this weekend if you could please.

7. Purdue (previously #7)

The Harbor looked open...but then the Shannon brooks storm came in and the harbor quickly closed up the gates and decided to remain shut for another week.  Enjoy the season Darryl Hazell....you might be the next to go bye-bye.

In case you are a pre-divisions purist, and want to see how teams stack up overall, here is my overall Top 14:

1. Ohio State (Previously #1)

2. Michigan (#5)

3. Michigan State(#2)

4. Iowa (#3)

5. Wisconsin (#6)

6. Northwestern (#4)

7. Penn State (#10)

8. Indiana (#7)

9. Minnesota (#8)

10. Illinois (#9)

11. Nebraska (#8)

12. Rutgers (#13)

13. Maryland (#14)

14. Purdue (#12)

Michigan gets the big jump this week.  Can they prove it against Sparty that the deserve to stay there?  Can Minnesota stay where they are and beat Nebraska?  Iowa and Northwestern will fight for a big win too....should be fun.

Arguments?  Likes?  Dislikes?  Think I am an idiot?  Tell me in the comments
