Minnesota Football at Iowa: Halftime Thoughts

Mitch is playing well. The defense is not tacking. The refs won't call holding.

Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

Here are quick thoughts on the first half.

Mitch is playing great: Has every ball been perfect? Nope. But he's 10-14 for 153 yards, 1 passing TD, and 1 running TD. He's thrown some great balls tonight.

Keep it up Mitch! We need you!

The defense needs to get their act together: TACKLING. Please try tackling better. And stay in your lanes. And do a better job of getting off the field on 3rd down. WAAAAAAAY too many errors by the Minnesota defense so far in this game. I know we're hurting. Missing Steven Richardson, Scott Ekpe, and Damarius Travis is killing us. But we're still better than this.

The Big Ten needs to ditch this crew of officials: Tonight's crew is the set of winners who screwed Michigan State last weekend. And tonight they seem incapable of recognizing holding even though Iowa is doing it on every other play. They are not the reason Minnesota is losing (seriously, a 3rd down stop on just one of those drives alone probably has the Gophers no worse than down 3) but they are still TERRIBLE.
