Minnesota lost to Ohio State tonight, 79-73. This was, well, not a terribly large surprise. The Gophers had their chances tonight, but they did not play with the type of quality they needed in order to come away with a victory. As I'm writing this, the Gophers just turned the ball over with 20 seconds left while down 6 points. Pretty much the summary of the night right there.
Good Things
- DeAndre Mathieu: He finished 7 of 9 from the floor with 16 points. There were several moments of the fun Lil' Dre we all missed most of this season. All in all, a fine final Big Ten performance from the senior guard.
- Joey King: He wasn't as hot as last night, but he was 3/4 (2/3 from 3) with 10 points.
- Free throw shooting: Any night over 70% from the line (Gophers shot 71.4%) is a good night from the line to me.
Less Good Things
You know what? I don't have the energy or desire to run through the normal list of things that frustrated me. The Gophers lost, that's a less good thing.
Game Was Over When...
D'Angelo Russell hit a 3 pointer with 1:43 left in the game. The shot put Ohio State up by 7 and put the game completely out of reach for Minnesota.
Next Up?
Well, we don't really know. The NIT seems reasonable but we'll have to wait and see.
