Gopher Basketball Adds Big Man Transfer Reggie Lynch

Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Richard Pitino and the Golden Gophers have added a big man transfer to the roster.

Reggie Lynch played his high school basketball for Edina and spent the last two seasons with the Illinois State Redbirds but has decided to transfer back home to play for the Golden Gophers.  Also worth noting that Reggie's uncle is former Gopher Kevin Lynch.

The Stats

Height: 6-10
Points per Game: 9.5
Rebounds per Game: 5.4
Blocks per Game: 2.8
FG Percentage: 51%

What are Getting

We are getting a legit shot blocker, first and foremost.  As a freshman Lynch was a member of the Missouri Valley All-Newcomer team after starting 20 games and setting the conference record for blocked shots by a freshman.  As a sophomore he was a second team All-Missouri Valley selection.

After sitting out a year, I expect Lynch will become a major contributor for the Gophers.  A shot-blocking menace who can score as well.  This is a very nice signing at a position of need, unfortunately he will be unable to play this coming fall when we may need him most.

With this addition the Gophers have up to two more scholarships available to use for the class of 2015.  If they use both scholarships that would leave them with only one remaining for the 2016 class (a recruiting update is coming very soon, I promise).  A couple of JUCO big men are coming for visits this coming weekend and there are still a couple of high school forwards that the staff is pursuing.  Expect the 2015 class to be wrapped up in the next couple weeks.
