David Cobb was selected by the Tennessee Titans in the fifth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday. The Titans selected Cobb with the 138th overall pick. Cobb becomes the 10th Gopher running back to be selected in the NFL Draft, but just the first since Laurence Maroney was selected by the New England Patriots in the first round in 2006.
Cobb heads to the NFL after a fantastic senior season for the Gophers. He set Minnesota single season records with 316 carries for 1,626 yards. Cobb was named an all B1G second team selection, and was named the Gophers Offensive Player of the Year and Team MVP.
He joins a Titans offense that is rebuilding around first round pick Marcus Mariotta. Cobb should fight for carries immediately with Bishop Sankey and give the Titans a good two-headed rushing attack.
Cobb joins fellow Gophers Maxx Williams who was selected in the second round Friday night by the Baltimore Ravens and his cousin Damien Wilson who was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the fourth round Saturday. If Cedric Thompson joins the other three Gophers in being selected it will be the first time since 2006 that four Gophers will go in the NFL Draft. That final Mason coached draft class had Laurence Maroney, Anthony Montgomery, Greg Eslinger and Mark Setterstrom all see their names called.
Congrats David from the entire The Daily Gopher Team!
