Greetings Gopher commentariat. There are 45 more days until football. I played basketball yesterday in what felt like 107 degree heat, so fall cannot come soon enough for several reasons.
For the Gophers, Nick Hart wears 45. Hart is a redshirt sophomore from Prior Lake. He contributed on special teams last season, and played in 11 games. Hart is a Minnesota legacy as well. His father and mother both attended the U, playing football and swimming respectively.
Hart is on twitter at @nickhart81. He posts pictures of puppies occasionally.
Additional Links and Notes
The Pioneer Press had a good piece last week on Nate Pomeday, an assistant basketball coach under Richard Pitino. Pomeday's daughter has fought through far more medical issues than most face in a lifetime.
The Women's Basketball team picked up two commitments. Annalese Lamke is a 6'3" center who will likely contribute early after the departure of Amanda Zahui B. She was the 49th ranked center in the class. Additionally she played volleyball and track and field in high school, so should have some solid athleticism and footwork.
Jessie Edwards hails from Australia, where she put up lots of numbers in Junior basketball. Edwards is also a 6'3" center.
Finally, as a request for HipsterGopher, I would like additional information on Biggie Munn. Munn was a consensus All-American in 1931, and a consensus All-Name Team pick of the century.
