Gopher Football is getting a visit from a Florida, four-star recevier. Dredrick Snelson is that receiver and he is coming to check out the Gopher program on Halloween where he will get to watch the Gophers battle Michigan for The Jug in primetime.
Official Visit Set For Minnesota on Oct.31st #Gophers
— Dredrick Snelson Jr. (@D_Snelson2) July 27, 2015
This is an exciting visitor and would be a nice addition to the program. This kid is a playmaker who would be a great addition to the Empire Class.
Snelson is a natural playmaker. He's tough, competitive and loves to play the game. Is a versatile player both inside and out. Still has a high ceiling for development on the little nuances of the game, but has instincts and the tools to mold. Will be highly coveted by power five conference programs and is a prospect that has the physical tools to play early.
Snelson is friends with the Daniels twins who have committed to Minnesota so I am sure there is some Empire pressure being applied to convince him to come North with them to Minnesota.
The one concerning thing I have read is that Snelson claims he has already decided where he is going to commit ($). He wanted to announce his decision at The Opening but was not invited. So instead he plans to announce at the Under Armour All-American game in January. The assumption is that Virginia Tech is the destination, where he visited just last week.
The good news is that Snelson won't be announcing until after the season. He is planning to step foot on campus and with nothing to lose the Gophers have every opportunity to change his mind. If we get a weekend of nice Fall weather, he watches the Gophers beat Michigan in a primetime game on ESPN, he has fun at Mall of America and falls in love with the Gopher program...you never know. Maybe he is using this as a fun trip with friends, but who really cares. Maybe it plants a seed and he starts to re-think his internal decision.
Stars and high rankings are always impressive. But ultimately you hope that this kid is a real play-maker who wants to wear maroon and gold. Getting him on campus is the first step, then you have to impress them. Step one is scheduled and hopefully he sticks with his plan to at least check things out.
