Richard Pitino and his Golden Gophers have announced their full 2015-16 schedule. We knew about the conference schedule that was released earlier this month, but we now know the 12 non-conference opponents.
11/13 | Missouri-Kansas City |
11/15 | Louisiana-Monroe |
Puerto Rico Tip-Off | |
11/19 | Temple |
11/20 | Butler/Missouri State |
11/22 | TBD |
11/27 | Nebraska Omaha |
Big Ten/ACC Challenge | |
11/30 | Clemson |
12/5 | South Dakota |
12/8 | South Dakota State |
12/12 | vs. Oklahoma State (at Sioux Falls, S.D.) |
12/16 | Chicago State |
12/23 | Wisconsin-Milwaukee |
The season tips off on Friday the 13th hosting the Kangaroos of UMKC who return their leading scorer (17.5 ppg!) and leading rebounder from last year's team that finished 3rd in the WAC.
The highlights of the non-conference opponents include two scheduled match-ups with Power 5 schools with Oklahoma State and Clemson. Other possible resume boosters would be Temple and potentially Butler.
The lower-tier opponents may also provide a bit of a challenge Louisiana-Monroe is coming off a 24-win season and a runner-up finish in the CBI. They have some punch coming back and could be a dangerous team if we aren't careful. The Jackrabbits of SDSU are also going to be a tough opponent for our young Gophers. They also were a 24-win team last year, narrowly missing the NCAA Tournament and return a nice core of their top players
Deeper analysis of the schedule will be coming prior to the season of course.
