Minnesota Football: Melvin Holland, Jr. is on the depth chart

This is not a drill.

Melvin Holland, Jr. Gopher Sports

With two games left in the regular season, redshirt sophomore wide receiver Melvin Holland, Jr. is now listed on the depth chart for the first time this season.

Now, there is no guarantee that he’ll even see the field on Saturday in the Gophers’ final home game of the season, but this is a development that cannot go ignored, considering the bizarre game of musical chairs we’ve seen at the wide receiver position this season (at least in terms of each week’s depth chart). Still no sign of fellow redshirt sophomore wideout Isaiah Gentry, as freshman Tyler Johnson occupies two back-up wide receiver roles. But hopefully this is a good omen for Holland. The Minnesota passing game is in desperate need of playmakers, and word out of preseason camp the last two seasons has been effusive with praise for Holland.

Holland did travel to Nebraska last week — his first game on the travel squad this season — but did not see the field against the Cornhuskers.

One more GIF for Melvin:

There were no other changes on the depth chart released this morning. Hence all of the love for Melvin Holland, Jr.

Good for you, Melvin.
