Minnesota Golden Gophers placekicker Emmit Carpenter, fresh off being awarded Big Ten Bakken-Andersen Kicker of the Year, was named first-team All-Big Ten. Carpenter was the team’s lone first-team all-conference selection.
On offense, sophomore running back Rodney Smith and senior offensive tackle Jonah Pirsig were named third-team All-Big Ten by the coaches and the media. Senior wide receiver Drew Wolitarsky was named third-team All-Big Ten by the media. Sophomore running back Shannon Brooks was named honorable mention by the coaches.
Rodney Smith, as the Big Ten’s leader in rushing touchdowns with 15, was an obvious choice for third-team All-Big Ten. We all know there are more important things in life than touchdowns, like Ohio State and Michigan, for example.
On defense, junior defensive tackle Steven Richardson was named third-team All-Big Ten by the coaches and the media. Junior linebacker Jonathan Celestin, senior defensive tackle Scott Ekpe, and senior cornerback Jalen Myrick were all named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention by the coaches and the media. Senior linebacker Jack Lynn and senior safety Damarius Travis were named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention by the media.
Damarius Travis didn’t really make much of an impact on the field, anyway.
In total, 11 Golden Gophers were named All-Big Ten. For a complete list of all of the starters from Ohio State and Michigan, click here.
