Minnesota Football Recruiting: 2016 National Signing Day - Patience Is Required

Strolling Through Twitterland: NSD Edition

Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Here we are, National Signing Day, the culmination of countless hours of recruiting by the staff. Countless hours of fans reading about, watching videos of and discussing players who may or may not end up wearing Maroon and Gold. It's an exciting day, even for those of us who don't follow recruiting all that closely. It offers us a glimpse into who we as fans will get to watch play for the next four-to-five years.

There are 20 players in this years class, not counting preferred walk-ons. We can pretend to know about these players because we've watched their highlight videos and have talked about them ad-nauseum for the past year. But truth-be-told, we don't really know anything about them. We don't know which players will develop, which players won't develop, which players will suffer an injury or which low-to-no star player or preferred walk-on will come out of nowhere and be the next Eric Murray. Every recruiting class is a total crapshoot. What we do know is this class will be on campus for the next four-to-five years and will be the core of the team in three-to-four years.

I'm just as excited as anyone to watch Carter Coughlin, Seth Green, Drew Hmielewski, Coney Durr, Tyler Johnson and Antoine Winfield Jr, et al. But here's the thing, patience is required for every single one of them. They may turn out to be program changers but it will take time. Some of these players will see the field as true-freshman but none of them will step on the field as a program changer as a true-freshman! They will all develop at their own pace and that is ok. So I ask all of you to remember that this fall when you start to question why Seth Green isn't playing. Have patience, their time will come when it is their time!

Onto the main reason we're here, the Stroll Through Twitterland. @GopherFootball did an awesome job with some really cool and fun features including highlights and commentary about each player. I thought it would be fun for all of you to be able to see these videos. So without further ado, here's your 2016 recruiting class!
