Minnesota Basketball: Gophers Dominated by Badgers on Senior Night

Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

THE FACTS: It was never a game in doubt as the Badgers jumped on the depleted Gophers and never really looked back winning 62-49 in Minneapolis.  The Gophers, with three key players suspended for the rest of the season, were significantly undermanned and outgunned.  It was a balanced effort for Wisconsin as Bronson Koenig had 14 points with Vitto Brown and Ethan Happ each contributing 12.

THE STAT: This one was really about shooting.  Rebounding was even, turnovers were fairly close but Wisconsin just shot significantly better.  35% (7/20) from three and 46% overall from the field for the Badgers.  Minnesota made just three 3's (3/17) and 33% from the floor.  Hard to win when out-shot by that much.

TURNING POINT: Yesterday when Kevin Dorsey, Nate Mason and Dupree McBrayer were suspended for the remainder of the season.  With three key player from your rotation unavailable, it is really hard to beat one of the top teams in the Big Ten.

HOT: Stephon Sharp is going to get a shout-out here.  The walk-on is getting an opportunity that most walk-ons never receive.  He got the start at point guard again tonight and actually lead all scorers with 16 points, to go with ZERO turnovers.  Good for him and enjoy the next couple games, kid.

NOT: Khalil Iverson missed a wide open, break away dunk and it was kind of funny.

UP NEXT: Gophers play at Rutgers where the Scarlet Knights have a very real opportunity to get their first and only Big Ten win of the season.
