Gopher basketball is filling the Kevin Dorsey scholarship with a grad transfer from Milwaukee. Following the firing of Panther's head coach Rod Jeter, Akeem Springs decided to leave for his final season. Springs will have one year to play in a Gopher uniform, this is a good thing.
#Gophers received a commitment from Milwaukee grad transfer Akeem Springs (@SpringsAkeem), per source. He's 6-4 wing eligible right away.

This is pretty important for the Gophers, I was very worried about depth at the guard positions with Dorsey's departure. Now the rotation should look something like this...
G - Nate Mason
G - Dupree McBrayer
F - Amir Coffey
F - Jordan Murphy
C - Reggie Lynch
BENCH
- Akeem Springs
- Bakary Konate
- Davonte Fitzgerald
- Ahmad Gilbert
Adding Springs makes me feel much better about the team's depth and gives us a kid who may have a big night scoring to help carry the load once in a while. He may even be a starter over McBrayer, depending on defensive ability and how quickly he assimilates the playbook.
Welcome aboard Mr. Springs. Happy to have you for one season and happy to have that scholarship for 2017!
