Minnesota Baseball: Gophers Eliminated from Big Ten Tourney after 3-2 Loss to Michigan

GopherSports via Facebook

And just like that your Big Ten Regular season Champs have been Eliminated from the Big Ten Tournament.

Day 1 saw the top three seeds all lose (bracket) and Day 2 has seen the top two seeds eliminated.

Dalton Sawyer pitched a gem through 7 innings and the Gophers took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 8th when Austin Athmann singled in Dan Motl.  A 2-1 lead and six outs away from advancing to Friday.  But Michigan led off the bottom of the 8th with a single and then as they tried a sacrifice bunt, an error by Sawyer allowed both runners to be safe and advance an extra base.  Sawyer was pulled leaving runners at 2nd and 3rd with nobody out.

Jordan Jess entered, getting a shallow fly ball to get an out but a single by Michigan's Jake Bivens tied the game and three batters later a wild pitch allowed Jonathan Englemann to score and give the Wolverines the lead.

The loss eliminates the Gophers from the Big Ten Tournament and puts their post-season fate in the hands of the NCAA Selection Committee.
