2016 NCAA Tournament: Gopher Baseball Earns At-Large Bid Heads to Texas A&M Regional

Brent Fields

Gopher Baseball received excellent news this morning that their Big Ten Regular Season Title was enough to earn them an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. They will begin play Friday at 3:00 CST against Wake Forest.

Here is how their Region breaks down

  1. Texas A&M (45-14) - #4 overall national seed
  2. Minnesota (34-20)
  3. Wake Forest (34-25)
  4. Binghamton (30-23)

This the first appearance in the NCAA Baseball Tournament since 2010 when the Gophers, as the 4-seed, went to the Regional championship needing to win just one out of two from Cal State Fullerton, but the Titans won both game, ending the Gopher's season.

This has been a pretty remarkable season in that the Gophers were not expected to be a top 6 team in the Big Ten yet went on to win the league and earned this post-season birth.

They will attempt to put it all together and make a run to the Super Regional next weekend. This is a double-elimination tournament.
