Minnesota Football: 2017 Gopher Recruiting Update and Offer Map

How about a quick update on Gopher recruiting.  The summer eval period is in full swing with coaches all over the country at various camps, including a couple held her locally.

COMMITTED

That's it for now but I think there will be handful this month to give a verbal commitment.

SCHOLARSHIP CHART

This is important to keep an eye on as the staff probably has around 18-20 scholarships to give out this year.  Offensive and defensive line are a priority with fewer offensive skill position players likely to be taken in this recruiting cycle.

NAMES TO KNOW

Here are a few names to keep an eye on. This is really a mix of kids who maybe don't have an offer yet, higher rated kids who the staff may be emphasizing, one 2016 transfer and maybe just a personal favorite of mine.

  • TE - Noah Grindorff - Ryan Burns of Gopher Digest has been very high on Grindorff.  He does not yet have a Gopher offer but one will come and he will be Golden.  Crosby-Ironton kid who plays all over the field for his high school team.  Would be a very athletic TE for Minnesota.
  • RB - Dominik London - East Ridge kid who visited campus this week.  He has a Gopher offer after a couple strong camps earlier this month at The Opening Chicago and then again at a Gopher camp.
  • CB - Demetrius Douglas - Son of Omar Douglas and currently living in Oregon.  The athletic corner is seeing his offer list grow and it includes offers from Oregon and Oregon State.  Douglas spent much of his life here in Minnesota so not only does he have the legacy tie, but he basically grew up here.  Douglas is at the top of my big board for the Gophers.
  • RB - Daniel Young - this is just a name that I personally am enamored with.  Texas RB who has performed very well this summer when up against higher rated RBs.  I don't know that we will take more than 1 RB this year so if London commits, I'm not sure what that means for Young or any other RB on the board.
  • OL - Transfer - 2016 OL transfer who would be eligible to play immediately.  More to come when/if it happens.  His name has surfaced on various recruiting boards and Twitter but I'll make you work for it.
