Minnesota vs. Indiana State Preview: TV, Streaming, Odds, and Gnomes

Minnesota faces off against Terre Haute, Indiana’s second best football program.

OPENING THOUGHTS

Last week wasn’t everything we’d hoped for (well, at least once the game kicked off...the tailgate lot was everything I wanted it to be), but Minnesota is still undefeated headed into Week 2. Playing an opponent from a lower division isn’t sexy or exciting, but it’s another chance for Minnesota to clear up some of the slop from the Oregon State game and (hopefully) stay healthy headed into the early bye week.

GNOME #TAKES

Let’s turn it over to Football Gnome for some thoughts on the game.

Football Player Gnome

Football Gnome: Thank you benevolent blog overlord.

My task this week is the same as always...to find a GIF that best captures my feelings of Minnesota’s esteemed opponent. In my research I found out some interesting things. Their school is #1 across the board for engineering programs. They used to host the Indianapolis Colts’ training camp each fall. Their campus is quite pretty. And fittingly, they are known as the Fighting Engineers (though I was shocked that their elephant mascot did not have a pocket protector).

/GoAUpher whispers loudly

What do you mean I’m talking about the wrong school?

/GoAUpher continues to whisper

Wait, what? When you showed me that photo I thought you were joking. That was clearly a prison or some form of large work release camp in the image. That’s a place people want to go to school?

/GoAUpher gesticulates wildly

Larry Bird? I’m a football gnome, why would I know anything about Larry Bird?

/GoAUpher points emphatically

No I will not redo my TAKE. I don’t care that you’re trying to run a semi-professional site. I have perfectly good GIF picked out and you can use that. Good day to you sir!

GoAUpher: Well then. Here’s a GIF of a cute elephant baby to represent Indiana State, the second best football team in Terre Haute and this weekend’s opponent.

WEATHER FORECAST

Cool (tailgating will start in the mid to high 50’s) but warming slightly to mid-60’s at kickoff. Should be partly cloudy. Nice fall day for football.

THE ENEMY

Where Are They From? Terre Haute, IN

All Time Series: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, but I’m pretty sure Minnesota leads.

Last Game: Probably the time Darrell Thompson set a rushing record, but I’m not sure (don’t blame me, I outsource this to the gnomes and they aren’t talking to me right now).

SB Nation Blog: Nope

Last Season: 5-6 (3-5 Missouri Valley)

Head Coach: Mike Sanford

Keys to the Game:

- Clean it up. Let’s not snap it into the end zone for a safety or fumble a punt hmmmmmm?

- Stay healthy/don’t target people. It’s nice when we have players who can play. Don’t jeopardize that please.

- Better offense. Glass half full: Minnesota scored 30 points last week. Glass half empty: the offense has so much room to be better. Solution? Kick Indiana State’s defense around the field and make us all feel good.

How Afraid Am I?

On a scale of 1 to 5 "Brewsters on his face" (1 being not a afraid, 5 being very afraid)?

I am 1 Tim Brewster lost on Rose Hulman’s campus afraid of Indiana State.

Completely Worthless Prediction:

I have a feeling we’ll see a trend this year. In games Minnesota should win, I’ll predict a bigger margin of victory than the Gophers will deliver. So long as we win I don’t care though. And we’re going to win tomorrow.
