Minnesota Football Recruiting: Harry Van Dyne Commits to Gophers

3-star WR with an Iowa offer decided to be Elite!

(*Editor's note...What the heck does "Commitment to Eight" mean? It is our new recurring title for recruit commitments referencing a commitment to work towards the Gopher's Eighth National Championship.)

A tall and deceptively fast receiver who is receiving plenty of late recruiting action has committed to Coach Fleck and the Gophers. Harry Van Dyne is a Kansas kid whose team was the Class 6A runners up as he accumulated 67 catches, 1,096 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The Kansas native had a late offer from Iowa but after visiting Minnesota this weekend he decided to be elite.

TDG Analysis

In Two Words - if you have to remember just two things about this player...

  • Tall
  • Deceptive

Absurd Comparisons

Believe it or not but I would compare Van Dyne to Rashad Still with better hands. He is tall and lanky and it takes a step or two but then he really is quite fast. Watching him run reminds me of the tape of Devin Crawford Tufts a little (if you remember that fast MN receiver who never worked out as a Gopher). But I like this kid. Soft hands and good straightline speed.

Scheme Fit

I’m not exactly sure what to expect in our offensive scheme but Fleck is by trade a receivers coach and he has some recent history of developing some rather productive receivers so I will take this commitment and assume Fleck knows what he’s talking about.

Impact on Other Prospects?

This is the second receiver in this class since Fleck has taken the program. I am not sure if there are others still being targeted but I have no doubt if there’s is someone they want and he’s interested they’ll take him.
