The New England Patriots. Alabama Football. They all have nothing on the University of Minnesota Dance Team. The Gophers competed in the 2017 Universal Dance Association College National Championships in Orlando over the weekend and once again brought home the hardware. The Gopher Dance Team competes in two of the three classifications, jazz and pom. The Pom classification has been in existence since 2010, and no school other than the Gophers has ever won the competition. The Gophers made it an incredible eight years in a row Sunday afternoon.

The other classification that the Gophers compete in is the jazz competition. Minnesota has also been a bit of a dynasty in this, winning titles in 2010-2014, but coming up short to Tennessee the last two years. However, in 2017, Minnesota once again took back the crown!

Video of the championship pom routine is not available yet, but below is video of the championship jazz routine.
The Gopher Dance Team now have a combined 18 national championships.
But that wasn’t the only hardware coming back to Dinkytown this weekend. Friday night the Universal Cheer Association Collegiate Mascot National Championships took place in Orlando. The competition is comprised of two parts, a video submission of the mascots interacting with fans during games and in the community, and then the presentation of a skit in Orlando. For the first time since 2013, there is a National Champion rodent in our midst.
