The Gopher Hockey team swept all three Big Ten Stars of the Week awards after winning the Mariucci Classic last weekend. Goalie Eric Schierhorn was named the #1 star, captain Justin Kloos was named the #2 star, and sophomore Brent Gates, Jr. was named the #3 star of the week. The Gophers won the Mariucci Classic with a 5-1 win Friday over Mercyhurst, and a 4-1 win over UMass on Saturday.

Schierhorn was given the #1 star of the week after backstopping the Gophers to two victories and being named the Mariucci Classic MVP. He allowed two goals on 62 shots and led all Big Ten goalies on the weekend in save percentage (96.8%) and goals against average (1.00). He helped the Gopher penalty kill go 12-12 on the weekend, and moves his record on the season to 11-5-2.
Kloos was named the #2 star of the week after tallying four points on the weekend. Kloos scored a shorthanded empty net goal to seal the Gophers 5-1 win on Friday night, and then scored the eventual game winning goal short handed and added two assists in the Gophers 4-1 Championship Game win on Saturday. Kloos is now tied for the national lead with thee shorties on the season.
Gates, Jr was named the #3 star of the week for his performance Friday night. He scored the first hat trick of his Gopher career, and just the fourth hat trick in Mariucci Classic history. He now has nine goals on the season, good for 2nd on the team.
Minnesota is idle this week with just the annual Skate with the Gophers on Saturday. They will return to action the following weekend when they host Michigan at Mariucci Arena.
